” DeKalb County sheriff’s deputies will soon be catching criminals on camera.
Sheriff Jeff Mann announced Wednesday that his office paid $298,000 for 60 body cameras from Taser International. Money for the cameras came from the office’s confiscated funds account.
“Body cameras are increasingly necessary tools of the trade,” Mann said. “They collect evidence for the prosecution of those who violate the law, provide protection to deputies and citizens, and provide a higher level of transparency and accountability to the public.”
Uniformed field deputies will wear the cameras and activate them during traffic stops, when exiting vehicles and in other interactions with the public.
The cameras will be mounted on uniforms so they record what deputies see. The cameras come with software, storage and redaction services.”
